Not a problem. I have two hdds on my primary controler, a cd-burner and a
removable IDE bracket (sometimes in use ) on my secondary controler and a
cd changer (which doesn't work right because it uses multiple LUN's) and an
aging 24x cd-rom on a tertiary controler. The only problem I encountered is
that I had to specify the I/O and IRQ for the third ide controler (while
back, so I don't remember where). BTW I'm still on the 2.0.36 kernel, I'm
not sure how this may be different in 2.2.x

I can sympathise with that. My solution is to grab a cheap old 486 (as in
$25 machine with a 200mb hd and no keyboard/monitor) with 16 or 20 megs of
ram, compile a really stripped down kernel for it, and use it as a
printer/DNS/IP Masq/Firewall for your network (mind you, pureists would
never let their firewall also be a print server. . . I'm not a pureist).
That way you can play with your "real" linux box without pissing off all
the people who've come to expect it to be working all the time when the
Windows machines are down ;)
