PCMCIA modem problem

Hi,

I have installed RH5.2 on a Toshiba 4010CDS. Everything is fine but the
Worldport PCMCIA V34 CE Data/fax. It seems to exist since :

masm:~$ /sbin/cardctl ident
masm:~$ /sbin/cardctl ident
Socket 0:
  product info: "USRobotics", "336 Data Fax `a"
  manfid: 0x0107, 0x0002
  function: 2 (serial)
Socket 1:
  product info: "D-Link", "DE-660", "118B6603"
  manfid: 0x0149, 0x021b
  function: 6 (network)

and,

masm:~$ /sbin/cardctl config
Socket 0:
  Vcc = 5.0, Vpp1 = 0.0, Vpp2 = 0.0
  Interface type is memory and I/O
  IRQ 5 is exclusive, level mode, enabled
  Speaker output is enabled
  Function 0:
    Config register base = 0x0200
      Option = 0x60, status = 0x08, pin = 0000, ext = 0000
    I/O window 1: 0x02f8 to 0x02ff, 8 bit
Socket 1:
  Vcc = 5.0, Vpp1 = 0.0, Vpp2 = 0.0
  Interface type is memory and I/O
  IRQ 3 is exclusive, level mode, enabled
  Function 0:
    Config register base = 0x0400
      Option = 0x60, status = 0000, copy = 0000
    I/O window 1: 0x0300 to 0x030f, 8 bit
    I/O window 2: 0x0310 to 0x031f, 16 bit

But when I try to access the modem from, e.g., kermit and whether I set
line to /dev/ttyS1, or /dev/cua1 or /dev/modem (created through the
control-panel), kermit stops at the connect command and refuses any
keyboard input (including the escape sequence).

In addition,

1/ On a different machine (Sager P100 portable), Win3.11 runs the modem
perfectly.
2/ In this latter case, I can verify that the modem acknowledge the AT
commands (from which I infer that it is real modem! Am I right?)
3/ The NIC card in socket 1 (Toshiba) works ok.
4/ On the Toshiba, when I try to access the modem from W95 the reply is
that another application uses it (which is obviously false) and that I
must close this application first.
5/ Other addresses (ttyS? or com? depending on the OS) are not any better.

Any suggestion about where to investigate from that point is wellcome.

Thank you for your help,

Camille
