You don't need to buy the "full" version of 98, you CAN perform a clean
install on a hard drive using the upgrade version of 98, at the dos prompt ,
just type "D:\setup" (where D: is your CDROM Drive). This can be done on a
machine without any previous version of windows on it. The setup process is
identical to the full version, the only difference will be one extra step.
During setup you will be asked to put your win95 cd in the cdrom drive, the
setup program will verify that it is in fact a valid cd. And continue on its
merry microsoft way. No files are copied over during this process, so
nothing is "upgraded". As for the linux partition, you can delete it using
the DOS fdisk, the linux partition will show up as Partittion type "EXT DOS"
which can be deleted using option 3 in the main menu.
I have seen so many people who believe that in order to install 98 from
scratch you need the OEM 98 CD, when the upgrade will do the same thing.
Believe me Microsoft already has enough money, don't donate any more to the
Bill Gates fund than you absolutely have to.

Subject: delete partition
I am going to completely clean my pc, uninstall Linux, Windows 95 and
reinstall it all. My computer has progessively gotten slower over time, so
I believe this will help. but I have a 6.4 gig harddrive and the first 4
gigs are partitioned to windows and then the last portion is for Linux.
Since Windows cannot "see" the Linux partition, how do I delete it to start
over?? Is there a way to do this in Linux?? Do I need to get something
like Partition Magic to do it safely and effectively??
And I believe that I read somewhere that it is best to install Windoze
first then Linux on the computer, is this correct?? And FYI, I am going to
buy the full version of Win98 SP1 to install, mainly because I know that if
you upgrade from 95 to 98 using the upgrade version, everything slows down
tremendously. Windoze is already slow enough. well, thanks for the time
and help.
