This isn't a Linux or RedHat problem but I'm hoping it has a Linux
solution (it doesn't seem to have a Windows one). I have a Compaq
Presario 1670 with a Toshiba XM-1902B CD drive in it. The drive seems to
insist on powering down immediately after it completes reading. This is
very annoying (especially when playing MP3s off CD) and I want to get
rid of it.
I tried kernel 2.2.10-ac3 with the vanderbilt UDMA patch (which supports
the ALI M5229 controller the laptop uses). Using hdparm -S## seems to
have no effect on the drive even though the command responds with
success.
