Core Dump when RH6 halted

I've successfully installed RH6.0 and have
configured the Xserver and many of the other
services available.  My problem is this; when I
halt RH6.0, I receive a core dump that will scroll
across the screen for minutes.  If I'm patient, it
will eventually stop and the computer can be
turned off.
  What is causing this and how can it be
eliminated?
