Re: Core Dump when RH6 halted



A core file is basically a memory dump of a process, taken at the
time it crashed. If the executable is compiled with debug support,
the core dump will give developers a good bit of information of
where the program crashed and what it's status was at the time ...
when debugging, core dumps are invaluble tools. Unless you
plan to debug whatever dumps core, you can remove the resulting
core files ....

Correct. And in Netscape you can just configurate, that each sent
message is getting such a card.

BTW, the question this Gentlemen was posing is however not too bad.
What is the purpose of these Core files.
Are they a sort of daily register for wrong actions ?

They are indeed able to create absolute very large files, filling your
HD space, rather quickly.
