I have a very similar setup recently upgraded to RH6.0.  It works fine. 
You're probably not using DNS so make sure you have all hosts listed in
the Hosts with their IPs.  Also make sure that your ISP name servers
listed in that section of the network section.  It sounds like you
timing out since DNS resolution cannot occur.  This is the usual cause
of not finding hosts on any net and will cause the time-out.
