Why go through the trouble of resetting the machine? Just reset the guilty
apps.
Not being a user of x11amp, I can't answer your question concerning it.
But with netscape, it can be somewhat of a pain at times.
Quit netscape and then do a "killall -9 netscape"
If that does not work, then do a "ps aux | grep netscape", and just a
plain "ps aux" after that, and kill off any tasks related to netscape.
