I got it to display an oversized ( the gnome "footprint was the size of the
screen) 800x600 at 8bit color depth.  It was recognized automatically, but
it appears to be unable to do anything over 8bit, and even that seemed
akward.  I plan on trading mine in for a simple S3 Virge and 3dfx combo.
