Hm, in my own lan I've got 2 Win98 machines running tcp-ip, netbui,
microsoft network client & sharing protocols om my 3c905b card(s). My Linux
computer runs dhcp (192.168.1.5-> 200), apache, glftpd, samba (with
masterbrowser & domaincontroller enabled). This one also has a 3c905b (3com)
card.
My machines are connected via 100 mbit full duplex to my switch which is
running cut through switching and no spanning tree algoritm or anything else
like that. I got 3 - 3.5 MB's of transfer (ide disks).
I got 2 problems:
1. My glftpd is suddenly lagging agressively.. It takes from 2 - 3 minutes
for a client to connect to the computer after receiving "Socket connected.
Waiting for connection". After that waiting everything is at it's normal
fast and furious speed (2-3 MB / sec).
Connecting via localhost is normal so it has something to do with connection
from another host. I don't have a clue of what I did to make it this laggy..
Any tips for what I should be looking for?
2. This weekend me and some friends connected up for some lan-gaming.. I
made my shares on the Win98 computers as well as the Linux ones available to
everyone. Most of the other dudes there did the same. Everyone got their ip
from my box. Everything ran as planned execept for when we browsed the
network neighbourhood.. No-one could click on a machine and see those shares
at all! It worked when we tried \\x.x.x.x in the RUN menu in win98. Everyone
could access everyones shares. All my computers were working fine (between
those 3 as it has always done in my home lan) but I had problems accessing
others shares as they had with accessing mine.. Why didn't this work as
planned? Why did we have to access each machine via tcp-ip in the RUN menu
and not via computername when it works and has always done in my lan?
