Not sure about the other problem, but this is classic bad reverse DNS.
Your linux machine must be able to resolve a name when presented
with a client's IP. It appears that it cannot. Now you can either
actually fix/setup DNS, or simply hand-enter the hosts in /etc/hosts.
Your pick, but I'd bet that's the cause of the lag.
