The server doesn't need to understand _anything_ you put up there.

It's up to the clients to interpret the content.  My personal
guess is that you have bad image tags in your HTML.  This is
often the case when using a GUI "Web Publishing" style editor.
View your "page source" and check the path to the images on the
server.
