Yeah, this one has me stumped.
It's as if the connection is being refused due to an entry in
/etc/hosts.deny
Yet no such entry exists...
I've tried bypassing the wrapper, but it seems that in.telnetd does not get
invoked correctly from inetd...
I removed the reference to "/usr/sbin/tcpd" and replaced it with
/usr/sbin/in.telnetd hoping it would come up (in case this was a wrappers
problem)
FTP and other services work fine, except for rsh, which also produces the
same error.
xdm logins work too...
Even the presence of the /etc/nologins file would have resulted in a
similiar error, (and the display of the file contents), but I already tried
creating and deleting the file just to see...
It's got to be something really simple... making it difficult to find...
