RE: APM and SMP supported together?

RTFMing some more and I found out that the APM driver doesn't spin down the 
drive nor does it turn off the sync on the video signal which are two 
features I was interested in.

Does anyone know if APM and SMP can co-exist? I just re-compiled 2.2.5
kernel to add APM to it but at startup APM fails with the message that
there is no APM support in the kernel.
