Install Alpha Linux

Hello,
Any help appreciated.
Installing RH 5.2 on Aspen Durango, 533MH PC 164 LX MB, SCSI hard drive
and Jaz drive and CD ROM. 128 M ram. Win NT4, SP3 installed on first
(5MB FAT) and second (2GB NTFS) partitions. Install Linux on partitions
on last half of drive, ~2.2GB.
Now completed four (count 'em, four!) attempts at installation, each
time looking for what might have been missed earlier, none has been
bootable.
Come to the end of the installation, all packages installed, asks for
the boot floppy and I put it in (lx164 image). It congratulates me on a
successful installation, tells me to remove floppy and hit enter.
Done.
Nice shutdown, milo restarts, etc, but eventually the message comes up
that the kernel cannot be found, and the milo prompt returns.
Thus:

So I figure it just needs some help and type in the boot command,
pointing to the root partition and the file vmlinux.gz--again, a nice
opening, lots of messages running across the screen faster than I can
read them all, ending in a kernel panic and dead machine.

Perhaps I ought to know the significance of all this, but it is beyond
me. I suspect there is something to do with the Jaz drive, but what?
Suggestions? Yes, using the Milo and boot images from the CD for lx164,
and could not find any that were newer than these. did try a recent test
milo on the last go-round, no difference. also using the new ramdisk
image from the RH errata page.
