ppp dns name lookup

I am having trouble with my i-net connection.  modem and dail scripts work, 
ping works, but no names will come back as found.  I do have the ip's for my 
isp in /etc/resolv.conf and I am able to bring up web pages if I know the ip.  
all the FAQ's I have looked at say to edit the /etc/resolv.conf   Thanks in 
advance for any ideas.
