Before you do anything else, ping a valid IP address...
Try
"ping 168.143.0.3"
If this works, you are talking to the ISP and you have TCP/IP - PPP
correctly set up...
... you just forgot to assign a DNS server for your machine to use.
Once you have DNS correctly configured you should be able to do something
like...
"nslookup www.netscape.com"
which should return a number...
