All-
Just got on board the RH install list yesterday. I am Yet Another Linux
Newbie.
I now have RH 5.2 up and running on a networked Pentium 166Mhz with 32 MB
RAM and 1.0 GB hard drive. (I had to go with the "workstation" install
profile because there wasn't 1.6GB free hard disk space. What is included
in the "server" profile that is missing from "workstation"?)
I had trouble getting the pc to "see" the network. I could not ping
anything successfully...kept getting the "network is not reachable"
message. I checked all IP addresses... they were fine. I finally
reinstalled RH and, much to my surprise, I can now ping to my heart's
content. Life is good again.
Now, to get the Sybase ASE RPM installed. I RPMed it and got all of the
directories & files created just fine. I restarted the pc, logged in as
"Sybase" and gave the new password. The Sybase install script starting
running right away. However, after a few screens it bombed out. I am not
able to restart the Sybase install process. Rebooting and logging in again
as "Sybase" did not help. Are there any web pages with good instructions
on installing Sybase ASE on Linux? I am also new at installing Sybase on
any platform. I can query & update Sybase databases all day long but have
never installed the product. Thanks for any info.
Best,
