Monitoring my modem speed ?

Hello "Family"

	In an effort to monitor my login speed without guessing by how fast
my home page loads (before hanging up to redial) does anyone know how
to do this ?

	I was told to add the -v (verbose) flag to my "chat" script but fail
to see where (and how) to do that nor the location of the particular
log file to see the results.

	I using a default kernel and Red Hat 5.1 plus a USR 56k modem.
