Well, I'm still having the same problems as I mentioned before, about all
kinds of things missing from the kernel that should be there (PPP support,
iso9660 support, and umsdos support). Without any easy answer, I decided to
recompile my kernel with these added. I ran "make xconfig" and selected the
Network Devices menu. I found that PPP Support was listed as M (maybe). From
what I read, this means it should be loaded as a module, and to whoever told
me this last time, kerneld is NOT loaded with my system. I also found the
other filesystem options I wanted and selected to have them, as well as PPP
support, built into the kernel instead of modules. I then clicked Quit and
Save, which informed me that I needed to run "make dep" now. So I did. Apon
completion of that, I ran "make zImage" as instructed by some manual I have.
This gave me the following:
Boot sector 512 bytes
Setup is 3548 bytes
System is 675 kb
System is too big. Try using bzImage or modules.
So I have two questions... First, how can I get past this error? Will
running "make bzImage" instead of "make zImage" work? And if so, do I need
to take all the other steps before trying it again ("make xconfig", "make
dep", "make bzImage")? And should I run "make clean" or some other make?
Next, how can I get modules working? I tried running kerneld from a terminal
window in Gnome, but this seemed to do nothing.
Thanks in advance!
