Re: Kernel Too Big

To all that have helped me, thanks. I found my problem myself while trying
some random things to get it working:

The disk I was using to make a boot disk for Linux had the write protect tab
in the on position and still contained the LILO for RedHat 5.2. This caused
Linux to load with absolutely nothing, after mounting the drive, it would go
to the login (hense, never loading any modules either), nothing else. For
those of you that might be able to do something about it (I found this in
linuxconf too, but I don't know if it's only a problem with RedHat
software), consider warning the user if a disk is write protected. I
completely bombed my computer trying to install RedHat 6.0 like a million
times. See, I have to use a boot disk, because LILO doesn't work on my
system. The reason is beyond me, but I get "01 " over, and over, and over,
and over again... It never stops! This is when LILO should be loading. It's
also unimportant to me, a boot disk works fine. So, after formatting my boot
disk, and making sure the write protect tab was off, I reinstalled RedHat
6.0 and created a new boot disk... All works fine now!

Unfortunally, I also had it install LILO to my master boot record (I forgot
that it didn't work last time) and screwed Windows over... Not like I plan
on using Windows often with Linux installed (hehe), but I need to get in
sometimes, since all the software I own is for Windows (to this point
anyway). I solved this by reinstalling the Windows 98 upgrade, no files were
lost. There's some information for ya if anyone ever asks how to solve the
same problem =)

Thanks for all your help everyone!
