From hda5 to Linux

I have ftp'd the Linux version of WordPerfect 8 to my MS/DOS D: drive
(hda5)
and now would like to install it in Linux. I don't know how to ftp in
Linux
so I used D: which I use long downloads. I have not yet installed
anything in Linux
other than what came with RedHat 5.2
I had attempted to install it once before and ended up with a copy of
the whole hda5 (150MB) in the /root directory. (Did someone laugh?)
Fortunately, I managed to remove it safely.
The file is called WORDPERFECT_tar.tar in the D: drive. I also have
GUILG00.GZ, the original zipped version of WP8.
What's the proper way to get WP8 from hda5 into Linux? Also, is
there
a website that explains this type of operation?
