rh6.0 and the new xdm like login screen

I just found a feature with the new login screen, one is anonying the
other is a severe security flaw in my opinion.

1) why can you not set your default windowmangaer to what ever you want,
or can you?  If so how?

2) why is it that anyone without a username and passwd can get on your
console and halt or reboot your box?  can that be fixed/configured.

anyone not believe me go try it.  I sincerly hope that there is a fix to
at least #2.
