Edit the XDM files and you can enable a menu that allows you to select the
windowmanager on the fly...
gdm, wdm and kdm come preconfigured to enable this...

Edit the XDM config files to prevent this...
Note: the CONSOLE is never secure.... anyone can reboot your system and type
"linux single" and have full access to it...
