I posted a question a few days ago about getting my LAN card(s) to work. I
have done so at least partly.
Installing 6.0 fixed it so that pcmcia actually installed the drivers, so
ifconfig -a actually showed an ethernet hardware address. However
/etc/pcmcia/network start still failed - /dev/eth0 never got created.
RH support suggested that I use Linuxconf to install and turn on eth0. I had
not done that because my reading of the pcmcia docs said not to do that, that
pcmcia would do the eth0 set up. I tried it, and bingo! I had a network. DHCP
worked with a little fiddling - I had to set up the default gateway and DNS by
hand, in linuxconf and the control panel for network stuff (I forget what I did
where). I had to reboot twice before everything got unconfused and actually
worked. During boot, eth0 set up is deferred eliciting a "[FAILED]" message in
the logs, but it gets done later when pcmcia starts up.
Two questions remain, what will happen when I go home - will DHCP work? and
what happens when I switch PCMCIA cards. We'll see.
