kde install

i just installed kde into rh 6.0 (didn't install it when i installed the kernel)

now, when i reboot and x starts up, i get a flashing screen a few times and tehn a list of erros:

According to /var/run/gdm.pid, gdm was already running (582), but it seems to have been murdered mysteriously

this error repeats but the number in the () changes.

the number listed in the /var/run/gdm.pid is not any of the numbers listed with the error, and i cannot run a kill on the pid supplied in /var/run/gdm.pid nor any of the numbers supplied by the error.
