Help: lp port not detected

I have 3 lp ports on my machine but none are detected when I run
printtool. This machine worked just fine in rh5.2. Any ideas would be
helpful.

There is a parallel port scanner connected in series with the printer,
but none of the ports are detected anyway. I have the same problem on
2 machines.
