Server or Workstation Install

I am setting up a Linux station to be used as a way to share my cable modem.
At this point, I don't expect to do much else with it. Do I need to install
Redhat 6.1 as server or workstation? What are the basic differences between
these installation choices?

Also, I've copied the CD on to the hard drive since Linux doesn't recognize
my CDRom. When I install from the hard disk and the installation process
partitions the drive, won't I loose the files I copied from the CD Rom?
Wouldn't that affect the installation?
