LILO boot disk revisited

Not a burning issu but one I haven't seen either on this list or in the four
fat Linux books I've made it through so far.
If I had a new partition to /etc/lilo.conf and then run LILO it adds the new
setup for sure. But this assumes that LILO is in the MBR or I'm using some
other loader such as Boot Magic.
If I boot off a floppy, though, even though I've tried "every trick in the
book," there's now way I can get any other choices beyond "rescue'" from LILO.
Is there a way, or do I just get used to it? Just wondering.
