Re: Administering Linux, Mugal's question

Anas, I am not familiar with the 1st edition so I can't really address your question.  Tim Parker is the only name you mention who is also a contributing author in the 3rd edition.  Pitts and Ball are called "lead authors."  Contributing authors are Chris Byers, David Horvath, Tim Parker, Steve Shah, Jack Tackett, Srianga Veeraraghavan and Daniel Wilson.   Copyright is 1998.  It's a BIG book.  The "how to-s" are there but grouped under topics such as "Administrative Essentials," "Apache Server," etc.

I don't like it that much. Is the third edition any better?
Thank you.

Looking for books on administering Linux, you might want to check out Red Hat Linux Unleashed,  David Pitts & Bill Ball, 3rd edition.  SAMS publication.  Available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon Com.  It covers System administration and management rather thoroughly.

Hi,

Could someone recommend a book on administering Linux.
(I would like to know how to setup, optimize, and efficiently use the
system.)

I am willing to get more than one book. So, please recommend all the
books you would find appropriate.

Please do recommend a UNIX book if you think that has a better coverage
of adminsteration.

Thank you for your help.
