Is there an introduced (between 5.2 and 6.0) bug with Adaptec 1542
controllers?
I have tried installing (RH6.0 - Mandrake variety) on a couple of machines
(Gigabyte motherboards, 166MHz Pentium/350 AMD, AHA1542, IBM 9Gb HD, NE2000
NIC) and I get similar, intermittant problems - most of the time I can
install OK up to the point of writing an emergency boot floppy OR writing
the MBR on the SCSI HD OR trying to find the NE2000 NIC - the drives won't
mount and and the NIC can't be found.
I have gone back to RH5.2 for this situation - I did not have any trouble at
all with RH6.0 on a Gigabyte motherboard, 350 AMD, NCR SCSI, Seagate 9Gb HD,
DEC NIC.
Anyone know what is going on? - there seems to be some indication from the
lists that there are problems with AHAs.
Regards,
Phil.
