startx wont startx

Hi.
1. Ive been having some problems with my mail, not receiving in Pine and
not being able to send in nsmail, I dont know if the two are related.
Anyway the temporary file warning went away, for some reason. And I
opened vi and removed the  modem.LCK,  I'm pretty proud of that, and my
dialup started working, for now at least. It was kind of weird at first
it wouldn't stop logging. I have about 2 gigs of log messages and
haven't figured out how to remove them yet. If this is too boring hit
delete, here's my question: does anyone know where I can see a working
pine conf file and tell me where it needs to go for Single user- dial-up
. Mine in /etc/ is still virgin, there is one in /root but I didnt
configure it right. And what happens to nsmail with pine?  the help site
at UW wasn't much help to me.

2.  Denice was kind enough to give me some advice on getting some x apps
to work in wmaker as user and her advice worked bitchin.  But I was
still having the problem with not being able to get x to start, as user,
so I was messing around and ran, I think one of the X config programs,
the one with the text screen, and set it to run level 5 on start. So I
am bypassing the login prompt and going directly to the redhat screen.
Did I fix the problem?
