Yes i know what you mean. I have the same problem. But a fiew days ago some
people told me that the problem is NT. NT didn't encrypted passwd as well.
There is an option to receives this problem.
Mayby the howto or www.samba.org
I mail you back late in the afternoon!!
On my home network I dind't any NT and its work wonderfull. So I think the
problem is NT with encrypted passwds
This is what I don't know - I get a dialog box to enter the password but it
will not accept it.

Mmmmh do you have smbpasswd to make to login and passwd for Linux and NT the
same?
Or make_smbcodepage ?

Well, I have a mix of Windows 98, 95, NT 4, W2000 and RH 6.

I'hope so. My home network (Linux 5.2 and 6.0, FreeBSD and clients of
Windows 95 works oke.
I thing so its important about your network configuration (IP, computers,
computernames etc.
I looking for this information here and I'll report you later.
What information do you need?
It would be great if we could fix it -your and my problem.

I need more information about your configuration. I have also problems with
Samba.
I think the problem is not Samba but NT. I make a view of changes in
smb.conf
but notting does work.
I work with RedHat 6.0 and SuSe 6.1 and a NT primary domain controller.
