RE: Mouse problems

Kudzu is a utility that is normally run as part of the RH6.1 start-up (is it
included in RH6.0? Dont know). It is for finding and configuring hardware. Type
kudzu or /sbin/kudzu at the command prompt as root. Perhaps /dev/ttyS0 is trying
to use an IRQ something else is using. Perhaps trying

Device         "/dev/mouse" # ie "/dev" instead of just "dev"

instead of

Device         "dev/mouse"

could do it, dont know. Does anyone else have any ideas?

     I have been using XF86Setup on RH 6.0 to try and configure the mouse and I
have tried all of the Protocols listed here on three different mice. A
generic three button serial mouse, a Logitech mouse and a PS/2 mouse. The
pointer doesn't move at all, although when I was using the generic serial
mouse under the Microsoft Protocol some mouse clicks were recognized but
there was no movement. These mice do work on other machines.

I don't have a PS/2 port so these mice have been plugged into my serial port
when trying to test them. I have successfully started X without the mouse
working.

The pointer section from my XF86Config file is shown below where dev/mouse
has a symbolic link to /dev/ttyS0 (where my mouse is plugged in) and
"Microsoft" is one of many Protocols I have tried. All the other entries in
the pointer section have been commented out.

Section "Pointer"

Protocol  "Microsoft"
Device         "dev/mouse"

I don't know what kudzu is, how can it help me?

Please can you say what type of mouse it is? (ie MouseMan, MouseMan+, etc)
and
what exactly the problems are - total non-recognition?

Have you tried kudzu?

I presume you dont have a PS/2 port? And when you say on ttyS0 you mean you
have
it plugged into a serial port.

Can you start X successfully? Please give us the mouse/pointers section from
your /etc/X11/XF86Config file

     I am running Red Hat Linux 6.0 and I'm having problems installing a
Logitech mouse on ttyS0. Does anyone have any suggestions or can point me in
the direction of some good trouble shooting web sites. I have tried all of
the mouse drivers and a different mouse but it doesn't work. The IRQ for
ttyS0 is 4.
