crc error Re: First-time boot stuck at Uncompressing Linux

You're right. You shouldn't be running into that problem.

Over the weekend I ran into a similar behavior on a machine where I was
installing an 8GB drive. I installed RH, and everything went fine. I
foolishly skipped the "rescue" disk creation step, and so I couldn't
attempt to fix my LILO installation.

I re-installed the OS, and then the system booted just fine.

I wish I had an elegant solution for you, but alas I do not. Have you
tried reinstallation?

Yes I did, and this time I got

LILO boot:
Loading linux ................
Uncompressing Linux...

crc error

-- System halted

I will try to re-position the boot partition on my hard disk so that it is within the 1024 cyl boundary, I'll let you know how I get on.

By the way, what does "crc error" mean?
