Re: Screen cont. (from the "Peanut Gallery")

Well, I just got back from posting a gripe to Suse... Bad as these problems are... Just try finding support info on their "hardware supported" database.
It's performance AND search logic/engine are abysmal.

Of course, I'se looking for info on Compaq Deskpro xl (486) but I had very little problem finding the info on redhat.

I make my living from commercial networked application integration and, frankly, Linux still is commercially impractical on a typical user machine.

But I'm not giving up yet.

Well, finally a thread I can chime in on (given I'm a rank novice on Linux).
I believe that you'll find the typical notebook has more install problems than
the typical desktop as there are more proprietary or chassis vendor-specific
drivers to deal with.

I would like to say that it appears that, judging from alll the 6.0 - 6.1
issues, RedHat has inadvertently found their own sinkhole -ala- Win95.  Let's
hope the errata are resolved more quickly.

Plus one more thing I want to test RH in my notebook before I install to my
desktop
    Pentium III 600Mhz 128 Mb ,20Giga Hd,Pioneer DVD,3DFx voodoo 3500 w/t TV
tuner , a SB Live pro, Modem/fax/voice , scanner, CDR/RW , web cam, printer etc
etc.
If i can't install it in my notebook (it should be easy ) how on earth i
will install it to the desktop with all this stuff it will take me years just to
go through all the how to's and the info pages for every component I have before
I'm able to take a simple      e-mail from linux.
    Regards Tassos
