Really
Jim it depends on the applications your clients want to run.
if it
just basic office stuff like word, excel, powerpoint, etc then
your
best
bet is to look at Star Office or Appix wares office package.
Star
office is very much like office97 or 2000, plus it can read
office
2000
docs.
If
your client is a Multimedia based company that uses Flash,
Director
then
there would be no use.
The
+ve to Linux is that laymen are too affraid to use it. so you
don't
have
people who don't know how to copy file from floppy to
harddrive/floppy
using
it. windows is a good example of "if you make it easy for idiots to
use
someone will build a bigger and better
idiot".
Well, I just got back from
posting a gripe to Suse... Bad as these problems are... Just try finding
support info on their "hardware supported" database.
It's performance AND search
logic/engine are abysmal.
Of course, I'se looking for info
on Compaq Deskpro xl (486) but I had very little problem finding the info on
redhat.
I make my living from commercial
networked application integration and, frankly, Linux still is commercially
impractical on a typical user machine.
But I'm not giving up
yet.

Problem is, Reh Hat
gives no appearance of ever reading anything posted tro
this list...

Re: Screen cont. (from the "Peanut Gallery")
Well,
finally a thread I can chime in on (given I'm a rank novice on Linux). I
believe that you'll find the typical notebook has more install problems
than the typical desktop as there are more proprietary or chassis
vendor-specific drivers to deal with.
I would like to say that it
appears that, judging from alll the 6.0 - 6.1 issues, RedHat has
inadvertently found their own sinkhole -ala- Win95. Let's hope the
errata are resolved more quickly. Attn: RH! Keep on keepin'
on. Pettyfog -----Original

Plus one more thing I want to
test RH in my notebook before I install to
my desktop Pentium III 600Mhz 128 Mb ,20Giga
Hd,Pioneer DVD,3DFx voodoo 3500 w/t TV tuner , a SB Live pro,
Modem/fax/voice , scanner, CDR/RW , web cam, printer
etc etc. If i can't install it in my notebook (it
should be easy ) how on earth i will install it to the desktop with all
this stuff it will take me years just to go through all the how to's and
the info pages for every component I have before I'm able to take a
simple e-mail from
linux. Regards
Tassos
