Simple and Easy may be the path to support hell. The problem with universal
filename is in configuration or version tracking if there are exceptions in
the process such as hangs due to previous updates or addressing
contingencies such as multi-user (logon profile) workstations.
Suggest you build a script generator on your server shell that in turn will
build a DOS bat or cmd file which installs the latest update by specific
filename then store it in your drive "v:" directory along with the update
file.
This script should first test to see if the specific file (or an empty
"marker" file of the same name) is in a local dir such as "c:\viru\temp",,,
using the dos "IF EXIST" statement.. if it is there, then abort. And the
last line in the bat file would create or move that marker file to the local
directory after the update is completed.
Test thoroughly for all foreseeable conditions, including new installs or
use of directory "clean-out" processes.

I thought about that, but I want this to be a completely hands off process
for me as the admin. One suggestion I got was to just use a single file name
and have the downloaded file symlinked to that name by the cron script after
download. Simple and easy to do.
