RE: memory usage

How could one avoid Linux stalling?
Linux stalled on me once. It was so unexpected that almost lost some work.
I was in the middle of debugging a small C program that my mouse pointer
disappeared. After that there was no response from the system. I had to
switch off then on. I was not happy about that. Well, I am happy that it
never happened again.
Is there any way to avoid stalling. I am curious.
Thanks.

I think it could be a machine problem... The same problem popped up with our
IBM NetFinity 5000 - It has a 128 mb - not so much, but see: we have three
several crashes in month. And all the time one of memory plugs swiching off.
I must start with BIOS and set it back.
So I don't know. If you ask me what is crashing machine, my answer is
"hardware". Check memory cards. Check connections. Check anything. Crashing
in Linux is something unusual - so far for me. Stalling - it's another story
:)))
