Re: ATI RAGE Mobility Chip

Art,

I think I saw some of the same things you are seeing. I played around with different resolutions (Ctrl-Alt-[plus] and Ctrl-Alt-[Minus]). The defaults for my LCD were higher than the default enabled on the config file provided on the link I gave you (I run 1400x1050 and I think I was seeing strange stuff at lower res, like 1280x1024). If playing around with the resolution doesn't work, my next guess would be the clock frequencies. I have no idea what they should be for your system though.

FWIW...Linux Mandrake ships with a frame-buffer kernel on the standard CD. That's what I used. Mandrake is based on a RedHat install but it's recompiled to be optimized for pentium and higher processors. You may want to give it a try some time.

Hey Guys,
I think I'm real close. I have a kernel supporting framebuffering running
and I've upgraded the RH6.1 installation to use XFree86 which supports the ATI
Mobility Video. What I get on the LCD is an image that appears like the sweep
isn't quite right. I get three images aligned in the horizontal direction. Is
this my horizontal sweep rate not being correct? Do you have any ideas on my
next steps?
Thanks for your assistance so far,
Art
