RH6.1 and PCMCIA Oddity (You may want to note)

I did an install of RH6.1 on my toshiba laptop across the network. The
laptop is a 4025CDT. The NIC is a pcmcia from CNET the CN40BC.

I mounted the 6.1 iso file on another machine (mount -t iso9660 -l loop
/data/rh61isofile.iso /mnt/rh61iso). I used the updated 6.1 pcmcia card
to do the installation. The install automatically recognized the card
and did not ask about it. I typed in local ip information and nfs
information and the install went fine. I rebooted into the new system
and could not get the pcmcia to work for anything. The card uses the
pcnet_cs driver which has been part of redhat for awhile. I modprobed
the module and tried every way I knew to get eth0 up. Nothing worked.

Then somebody suggested popping the pcmcia card out and then putting it
back in. BINGO. It worked! It even loads the correct module and
initializes eth0 correctly.

I am happy now. However, I still want to figure out why I need to pop
the card in and out. AND how it could install across the network and
then not work!!!???

cheers,
brad
