All of this is entirely true. I've seen people subscribe to e-mail
lists with a particular e-mail address (example joe mycompany com).
Sometime during the usage of this e-mail address, mycompany.com starts
sending everything through a mail server (different machine/configuration
than it started) with a slightly different e-mail address. Maybe now,
all mail that comes from joe, comes from joe mail mycompany com A
listprocessor compares the two, and it never can find a match to
unsubscribe. All e-mail to Joe still gets to him at his regular
subscribed address (joe mycompany com), but e-mail as it goes out from
Joe always has mail.mycompany.com on it as the originator. I've seen
people's addresses change from a .com to a .net (because the ISP registerd
the other domain extension and allows both .com and .net to be a valid
e-mail address). There are many reasons why a persons e-mail account/ISP
service doens't change and the rules of e-addressing sending/receiving
change behind them changes. Which is convenient for the user, but
inconvienient when wanting to unsubsccribe from a specific e-mail address.
Also, like Jim said, turn off your rules to filter out the e-mail from
the red hat lists because they might be sending back a confirmation
message that you need to respond (probably just hit the reply button)
that you're not reacting to because you're not seeing it.
