Hi all,
I am trying to install RedHat Linux using a boot diskette. I am
doing this so that I can use a Promise UDMA66 patch to
make the linux installer recognize my UDMA66 hard disk.
Anyway, I took the boot.img from the website, used rawrite and
created a boot disk according to the instructions.. When I used the
disk, the initial screen comes up and gives me a few options for
text based, graphical, expert installation etc. No matter what I
choose,
the next step "loading linux kernel" fails with an error "unable to
read from
disk. Replace disk and enter any key" message. The same thing happens
with the boot.img from RedHat 6.2 and RedHat 6.1 (both from RedHat
website).
I looked at the contents of the disk and it contains two more .img
files.
The same disk works fine on my laptop. Is there something different
about the floppy drive or controller which is causing the installer not
to be
able to read the .img files from the diskette ? I am trying this on a
Compaq Presario 7598 machine.
Thanks,
Ramesh
