Works fine here. RedHat6.2 with XFree86-4.0 and NVIDIA
drivers. Installed with the GUI tool from helix-code.

My home dirs are NFS shares and passwords are in NIS.

You may want to try removing the .Xauthority files in $HOME
since gdm is complaining about it.
