I wonder has anyone tried to install Xwindow
3.3.6-20 on a Red Hat Linux 6.2 OS on hardware with an i810 chipset. I have
installed the latest version of the kernel, 2.2.16-3 which should support this
chipset. After installing XFree86 I ran Xconfigurator, entered 4M for the
video card RAM as it says to do on the RedHat website and got a screen asking me
if I could see it to which I said yes. It finished and told me that it had
written everything to the /etc/lib/XF86Config file. I then rebooted and typed
startx and it entered Xwindows correctly. I exited Xwindows, rebooted and
tried to enter it again but now it flashes the screen up briefly before exiting
and coming back to the command prompt with a waiting for Xserver to shut down
message. Further up the page it says that there was an error doing ioctl. Has anyone had this problem and how
can I fix it.
Thanks for listening.
