XFree86 4.0 and rpm

I've installed RH 6.2 and I need support for an ATI Xpert 2000
display card, which uses the Rage 128 chipset.  In searching the
archive I found that I'll need to install XFree86 4.0.  I pulled off
the rpm from under the rawhide directory, but rpm complains when I
try to install it:

    Only packages with release number <= 3 are supported by this
    version of rpm.

Of course, if I pull off the rawhide rpm-rpm or rpm-srpm I have the
same problem.  How do I get past this bootstrap problem?
