INSTALLATION SEES ONLY 64MB OF 256MB RAM: DWEF

My Mandrake Linux PC only recognizes 64 MB of RAM although the PC has
256 MB.

Can anyone help? I have done my 'Bible Study' (the RED HAT LINUX BIBLE
by Negus) but I can't find anything about this type of problem.

I recently bought a PC with 256 MB RAM which I need for my hobby of
editing videos (unfortunately the software has to use WIN98) so I had to
deal with the small number of vendors expert in configuring editing
systems. Not all components are suitable for video editing tasks.

None of the big editing boys (in the South of England) would touch
Linux. A very small firm making editing systems said they would have a
go. They knew which components would work for editing but had never used
Linux.

They decided that Linux was worth supporting and were prepared to learn
about it. They were prepared to change anything that would not work with
Linux.

They ended up with a system that boots up in WIN98 unless you boot up
from a Linux floppy. They did a good job, considering they didn't charge
me any extra for partitioning the system drive, installing Linux and
testing everything worked for both OS.

They have been so helpful I don't want to force them to spend more time
on my system. I feel I should sort out this problem, unless it means
re-installing Mandrake all over again.

What do I have to do? If it proves too complicated for me then they
would help me out but it would mean the disruption of packing up my PC
and returning it to them.

Please keep it simple. Before I retired I was an analyst for ORACLE
databases, usually on UNIX platforms, so I appreciate the virtues of
UNIX but don't know the 'nuts and bolts' or is it 'ntx and btlx' in
your language? {:-)

Thanking you in anticipation

Dennis
