question

hello guys,

I just finish installing a redhat 6.0 and connect to the internet using a
PPP dialup connection. Problem is when i manually edit the pap-secrets
under /etc/ppp/ and change the username and password it seems that it dont
sends an authentication to the NAS actually that username and password is
exist in my authentication server,  but when i change the username and
password under x-windows it works well. whats wrong when i edit the
pap-secrets and change the username and password manually? does it follows
that you may always change your password and username under x-windows?
