I have never used Linux but as I am buying a more powerful PC in order to edit videos I want to buy something on which I can also run Linux.
I would be very grateful for any advice you can offer.
I have been offered the following system by a PC dealer. Please let me know (preferably by direct email)if you can see any problems.
Some of the work will be done using Windows, but I would like to use Red Hat Linux 6.1 for Internet, wordprocessing (BW printing) and
faxing. No immediate plans to use colour printer or scanner with Linux. If I eventually set up a website I would need to scan photos. If
scanner is not Linux compatible perhaps I could transfer image files between systems.
I suspect that the dealer may not have given me sufficient information so please let me know what further details I should ask for. This is
quite urgent as I would like to accept/reject their quotation on Monday 9th.
To operate with Windows 98 and Linux using:
Athlon 750 with 256MB Ram
10gigdrive for Win98SE and 10Gig for Linux
30Gig drive for video
52xCD drive
17" IIyama monitor,
56K modem supporting DOS,[I believe this will avoid Winmodems]
Cordless keytronicKeyboard
Cordless MS mouse
SoundBlaster live 1024,
Nvidia TNT2-32MB graphics crad,
Epson 750 colour printer
Epson GT9500 professional scanner.
I would also use my old Epson LQ550 24pin dot-matrix printer.[Black&White]
Thanking you in anticipation
Dennis
