RH 6.1 and printer ports = how?

During the installation of RH 6.1 it offered me to include the printer,
so I decided to install an Epson 24 pin on the first parallel port
(actually I have Fujitsu DL1100 that is Epson compatible). Well, during
the booting of Linux it seems to me that lp0 port is not initialized at
all. If I try printtool it opens a window describing /etc/printcap where
I see that Epson Dot Matrix, 24 pin on is installed. If I click on it
and 'edit' it, I got an info window that says: Auto-detection found the
following: /dev/lp0, lp1, lp2 : all of them not detected. How to make it
to detect parallel port (LPT1 under Windows where it prints without
problems)?
